POBAL exhibition: Working for an Irish Language Act in the North

The POBAL exhibition ‘Working for an Irish Language Act in the North’ covers the work carried out over a period of years by the Irish speaking community to achieve its rights, culminating in the lengthy POBAL campaign for an Irish Language Act for the north.  Great interest has been shown in the exhibition since it’s launch on 4th August as part of POBAL’s West Belfast Festival events.  Since then it has shown in An Droichead, Coláiste Feirste, St Patrick’s Arts Centre in Downpatrick, An Carn in Maghera, and in supermarkets ASDA, Park Centre, Dairy Farm and The Westwood Centre.  If you are interested in bringing the exhibition to your centre, contact POBAL.  See Gallery

POBAL exhibition: A Friend's Eye, 200 years of Irish language news

POBAL's exhibition and booklet Súil Charad was launched in Belfast's Linenhall Library on 19/5/11. Súil Charad tells the story of Irish language publications, from the 18th Century to the present day. John Killen, head Librarian, welcomed the exhibition, saying it was an additional, worthwhile addition to their own catalogue. Dr. Fionntan de Brún, UU Coleraine, officially launched the exhibition and booklet. He said, Súil Charad is a wonderful record of the growth and development of the Irish language over 200 years.' Séamus Mac Aindreasa, Development Officer with POBAL, carried out the research for the exhibition. Mary de Largy, UU Magee, gave the launch lecture, and she praised the idea of telling the history of the Irish language through newspapers and newsletters.
The exhibition will be on display in the Linenhall Library for one week and will then go on tour to many other venues, Derry, Dublin, Donegal and Armagh amongst them. See Gallery
